Stories rooted in heritage

Marvellous Michael Anson, known as Marve, is an award-winning filmmaker and fantasy author whose work is shaped by a lifelong fascination with myths, histories and the limitless possibilities of speculative fiction.

Marve has been writing for over a decade. Her trade debut fantasy novel, Firstborn of the Sun, was published by Penguin Michael Joseph in October 2025 and is the first instalment in a planned trilogy. The novel was a finalist for the 2023 Future Worlds Prize, shortlisted for the 2026 NOMMO Award for Best Novel, and received recognition in several other writing competitions, including the 2026 BSFA Longlist and the 2026 Aldiss Award Longlist. Its sequel, Heir of the Shadow, is due for release in autumn 2026.

Marve is a mentor for Black Girl Writers, a member of the Society of Authors, and the Outreach and Inclusion Coordinator for the British Fantasy Society. She is represented by Ciara Finan and Flo Sandelson at Curtis Brown Literary Agency in the UK and United Talent Agency in the USA.

When she isn’t weaving fantastical tales, she can usually be found embracing one of her many hobbies, obsessing over myths and histories, collecting books and carefully curating her personal library, or indulging her unapologetic love of all things Christmas.
